A Century of Jackson County Sports

The program looks back over a century of Jackson County sports history, starting from a time when baseball was king. It will include school integration, historic events at Western Carolina University, and local high school state championship teams — any state championship team members present will be recognized.

Presented by Carey Phillips

Retired sports editor of the Sylva Herald. During his 42-year career with the Herald, Carey won numerous awards from the N.C. Press Association.

Meetings bring together longtime members and newcomers alike for an evening in the Community Room of the Jackson County Public Library.

All JCGS programs are free and open to the public — you don't need to be a member of the Society to attend.
