Come Climb the Steps With Us

The Society's office and research library sit inside the Courthouse Wing of the Jackson County Public Library, at the top of the 107 steps rising from Main Street in Sylva. Come see us, call, write, or join — the door is open.

The mission of the Jackson County Genealogical Society is to bring together those persons interested in genealogy, especially for Jackson County families; to discover, research and exchange material related to Jackson County history and genealogy; and to provide for the preservation of such material and for its accessibility.

  • Help preserve Jackson County's family and community records for future generations
  • Support scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors at Jackson County's high schools
  • Sustain a research library of some 2,000 volumes, open to the public since 1991
  • Keep monthly programs and meetings free and open to the whole community
